Marion Community Schools has announced that current McCulloch Junior High School Principal Stephanie Lockwood will also take the lead for Justice Intermediate School for the 2020-21 school year. She will oversee both buildings and will be the instructional leader for grades five through eight.
“I am excited about the opportunity to strengthen the positive school culture across these four grade levels to better support the academic growth and the social and emotional well-being of our students,” Lockwood said.
Lockwood has been with Marion Community Schools since 2019 and has been in educational leadership in Grant County for about 15 years, with several years of teaching experience before that.
Moving into this new role, she will be working to build a collaborative team across the four grade levels, to align instruction, and to develop continuity and consistency. This five through eight outlook will help eliminate some of the hurdles to learning and growth that the jump from building to building has sometimes caused for middle-grade students in Marion.
With Lockwood overseeing two buildings, she will be able to utilize the administrative teams in both buildings intentionally and effectively, to ensure clear leadership, authority, and supervision at both buildings every day. This will build on the cooperation and collaboration that was already providing opportunities for students across the four grade levels.
Marion Community Schools Superintendent Dr. Brad Lindsay said he believes Lockwood will excel in this new role and will bring consistency and connection not only for Marion students and their families but also for teachers and staff.
“Stephanie Lockwood is an exceptional instructional leader and building administrator,” Dr. Lindsay said. “I believe she will be able to maximize the strengths of the teachers and staff across both of these buildings. This new model of leadership across these two buildings will open up new opportunities, and we are looking forward to Giant things ahead!”
Marion Community Schools is thankful to outgoing Justice Principal Federa Smith, not only for her time leading Justice but for her many years of service as an administrator at Marion Community Schools. As she steps back into retirement, we thank her for her excellent work.
